2021 Spring in review
Spring 2021 marked another momentous progression for the AWB yearling and private purchases with six Group One horses competing from 1100 to 3200m in Sydney, Melbourne and Hong Kong.
Yearling purchases were highlighted by; YEARNING (SNITZEL) winning the Group One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield, LUCKY PATCH (EL ROCA) winning the Group Two Premier Bowl at Sha Tin, BELLA NIPOTINA (PRIDE OF DUBAI) was a courageous second in the Group One Manikato Stakes at Mooney Valley and third in the Darley Sprint at Flemington, while CROSSHAVEN (SMART MISSILE) was a close second in the Group Three Chatham Stakes at Flemington.
DOUCEUR (NO NAY NEVER) was an Inglis Ready To Race Sale purchase for Mr and Mrs Sandy Tait, a serious filly to follow coming out of her Spring campaign with a solid third in the Wakeful Stakes, before a head bobbing second in the time-honored VRC Oaks.
The pinnacle of the Spring was ultimately the Melbourne Cup win of AWB private purchase VERRY ELLEEGANT (ZED), who again reinforced her title of a Champion securing her 10th Group One win in the fifth fastest run in Cup history. Needless to say that I am very grateful to be associated with such a special mare
“It’s a performance that will still be spoken about in 100 years’ time when the best Melbourne Cup wins in history are being discussed” Dan O’Sullivan
Another NZ private purchase to excel this Spring was Group Two Edward Manifold Stakes winner ELUSIVE EXPRESS (JACKKALBERRY), who was a model of consistency all season as runner up in the Thousand Guineas, third in the Thousand Guineas Prelude and fourth in the VRC Oaks. Congratulations to all the connections for your success and support!
